About sources of inspiration from within and from around
When you're busy
making patchwork, in particular the most difficult parts of it, don't you need absolute
silence for a while? You're probably tuned in to a fantastic frequency of music coming
from within yourself - did you know that? The music is what you're able to hear with an
inner ear as you stop and study what you just succeeded in making.
The Russian painter Vassilij Kandinskij (1866 - 1944) was convinced that every colour
and every shape and form has its own inner sound. Music and colours belong together. The
artquilter Michael James (1949 -) told us in Oslo once at a workshop that he only listened
to classical music during the process of making his quilts. Personally I switch between
total silence and everything from good audiobooks to radio programs and music. It's so
good to feed on something of high quality whether it's music or drama or good documentary
as I work and thrive in my hours of patchwork. Create your own inner room of
concentration, wellbeing and glow while you work both on the creative side and the more
trivial parts of your quilt.
Can you hear the music now?
