One stitch leads to another
Today you're going to
sit down in your very own quilting wagon and go to Memory Lane where your quilting life is
on display. You're at the beginner's stop. There, in the far corner, behind the quilting
wagon you're sitting in, are your very first quilts, somewhat crooked and bent and with
colours you certainly never would have used at present. But they are touching; fond
memories of those new friendships that came to be during evenings at work in your local
quilting bee.
Now you're heading further and arrive at the patchwork you made a few years ago; can
you remember everything you have given away to family and friends, and the quilts you sent
to a worthy cause too? You go further again through new landscapes. And look! There are
the memories of your quilting trips to the US and the trips here in the Nordic countries.
You've been around.
You've seen so much outside the workshop rooms. And now, here are
glimpses of all the art exhibitions you have enjoyed simply because you were on a quilting
trip anyway. You say you can hear laughter and fun? That's just the Show and Tell after a
shopping raid with the Visa card and your quilting friends.
You turn the next corner and suddenly there it is; the first quilts you designed
without anybody else's pattern or help. Can you remember those late nights when you
understood that you really could create? Can you see the scetches to the first patchwork
in your own design? You were so proud, and rightly so! It was exactly this quilt that made
you interested in quiltdesign on computer and later set speed to your computerskills at
home. Now we arrive at the paint and brushes you keep. Do you recall? Oh yes, you found
that old hobby of yours again, only because you were busy being creative on a wider scale.
Quickly the wagon continues, it's easy to drive; Look at your latest quilts, the matching
colours and the pointed patch-corners. Surely you can see that you have improved your
technique and that you know a lot more about colours and their influence on eachother than
before.
In the backseat of your quilting wagon you'll find all the knowledge and adventures you
have gained through this absorbing hobby of yours. On the top there is an album of photos,
showing the faces of your quilting friends. You know more about Amish than before,
geometry is a lot easier now than in the old days at school, and Internet is your friend
when the sewing machine is resting.
And on your lap is that small quilt your grandchild sewed with your assistance last
year. In the front of the wagon there is plenty of space for new expeditions and for new,
unsewn quilts waiting for you
so have a nice trip into the future
